We are pleased to announce the promotions of two dedicated Hicks Johnson attorneys, Lori Arakaki and Daniel Scime, to the firm’s partnership.

The promotions were effective January 1, 2025.

Lori Arakaki litigates complex commercial disputes before federal and state courts at both the trial and appellate levels, as well as in arbitration proceedings. She advanced critical aspects in a case involving a prominent aerospace and defense company and drove significant outcomes in a case with a regional financial institution, defending against allegations of trade secret misappropriation, and was one of the lead lawyers on a complex patent infringement suit. She is highly skilled in handling all stages of litigation, from drafting pre- and post-trial motions to deposing fact and expert witnesses as a first chair in high-stakes matters and successfully arguing motions in court, to trying cases. Prior to joining Hicks Johnson, Lori practiced in the litigation group at Willkie Farr & Gallagher’s San Francisco office. She also spent several years as an associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Los Angeles office.

Dan Scime focuses his practice on complex civil litigation, including trials and appeals. He has made a significant impact on cases in the renewable energy space for a client with multiple parallel proceedings and a decommissioning case for a leading U.S. oil and gas producer. Dan also has a successful record as a trial lawyer at Hicks Johnson, which includes trying one case to a successful verdict and settling another major case during trial. As a veteran of an Am Law 10 firm, he excels at managing a broad range of sophisticated matters for corporations and individuals, including shareholder derivative suits, securities class actions, contract disputes, antitrust matters, torts cases, international arbitrations, and cutting-edge cybersecurity matters. Dan also has experience assisting corporations with both internal investigations and government enforcement matters. Prior to joining Hicks Johnson, Dan was an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, where he practiced general litigation in the firm’s Chicago office. Before law school, he worked at Google for three years.
